Six bid for Qatar's Oryx school construction contract

Qatar Airways and UK-based Orbital Education have received six bids for the main construction contract for their Oryx International School campus in Mesaimeer, Doha, a source close to the project told Zawya Projects.
Midmac Contracting Co, Boom General Contractors Company, Imperial Trading & Contracting Co, Al Darwish Engineering, Tadmur Contracting and Gulf Housing & Construction Co are the six companies bidding for the project, said another source.
The bid submission deadline for the main construction contract was 12 February, 2017 with the contract award expected by early May 2017.
Construction is expected to commence by early June 2017 with completion scheduled for the end of fourth quarter 2018.
The three-storey school campus is expected to accommodate 2,000 students of primary and secondary levels.
Lusail Consultants is the project management consultant, Parsons Brinckerhoff Middle East is the design consultant and Jain & Partners is the Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) consultant for the project, the source added.
In November 2016, Qatar English language newspaper Gulf Times reported the official opening of Oryx International School at Al Nahda School Street, Doha for children of Qatar Airways staff. It quoted Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar al-Baker as saying that the plan is to build a new 41,000 square metre campus at Abu Hamour in Mesaimeer that will house 2,300 students at primary and secondary levels. The new campus is expected to start operations by May 2018.
