Dubai-based mall developer and diversified group Majid Al Futtaim is planning to build Egypt’s second indoor ski resort after Ski Egypt at its upcoming four billion Egyptian pounds ($227.92 million) City Centre Almaza project in Cairo, a senior official told Zawya Projects.

Ski Egypt, located in the $722 million Mall of Egypt, opened earlier this month.

"The large turnout at Ski Egypt mirrors our strategic choice of Egypt for this ambitious project. We are committed to making Ski Egypt Almaza one of the leading entertainment attractions in Egypt,” Omar El Banna, Country Head, Majid Al Futtaim Ventures  said on the sidelines of a press conference to announce the Mall of Egypt opening.

Ski Egypt covers 7,700 square metres and cost 1.2 billion pounds ($68.39 million) to build.

The foundation for City Centre Almaza was laid in January 2016 and the project is scheduled to open by first quarter 2019, according to a statement posted on the company website. The mall will be the company’s third City Centre in Egypt and 14th in the Middle East, the statement said.
