Iraq signs contract for flare gas recovery project

Iraqi oil ministry signs agreement with Baker Hughes, a GE company to develop flare gas recovery solutions for Nassiriya and Al Gharraf oilfields
17 July 2017
Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE) and Iraq's Ministry of Oil have signed a contract to develop modular Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) plant solution for flare gas recovery at Nassiriya and Al Gharraf oilfields in line with the country's strategy for energy sector development, it was announced on Monday.

The company said in a statement that the first stage of the project will see deployment of advanced modular gas processing solutions to dehydrate and compress flare gas to generate over 100 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas.

In the second stage, the Nassiriya plant will be expanded to a NGL facility to recover 200 MMSCFD of dry gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and condensate.

BHGE said the project will curb wastage of gas though flaring, produce LPG and condensate for domestic use and exports, and supply dry gas to meet the fuel requirements of Iraq's power plants.
