Bahrain hosts Middle East's first copper tube manufacturing facility
06 April 2017
Construction has started on the Middle East’s first copper tube manufacturing plant in Bahrain, according to a statement from Bahrain-based Bank ABC, which is funding the project.
The facility, located at Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP), is scheduled to start production in early 2018 and would supply commercial copper tubes to air-conditioning and refrigeration original equipment manufacturers in the region, the bank said in a statement.
The new facility would create over 200 jobs and boost exports from the country’s industrial sector, which currently accounts for 20 per cent of its GDP.
The project is being set up by Mueller Middle East BSC, which was established in January 2016 as a joint venture between US-based Mueller Industries, a NYSE-listed manufacturer and distributor of flow control and industrial products, Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, the investment arm of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Cayan Industrial Projects WLL, a regional industrial projects developer and investor.
State-owned Bahrain News Agency reported in January 2016 that the three partners would approximately invest $40 million in the project. It said Mueller Industries would have a 40 per cent stake in the joint venture with the remainder shared equally between Mumtalakat and Cayan.
